Closet Reset: How I’m Shopping My Wardrobe This Year (We Got Clothes at Home)

At the start of this year, I made a simple decision: before buying anything new, I was going to spend time with what I already own.

Not in a restrictive way. Not in a “no fun allowed” way. But in an intentional, curious, let me see what I already have way.

That mindset is what inspired my Instagram series, “We Got Clothes at Home.” This blog post is the deeper why behind it.

What “We Got Clothes at Home” Really Means…

If you grew up hearing “we got food at home,” you already understand the energy. It’s not about deprivation, it’s about resourcefulness, creativity, and appreciation.

“We Got Clothes at Home” is my reminder (and maybe yours too) that:

  • Our closets are fuller than we realize

  • Style doesn’t require constant shopping

  • The goal isn’t more clothes (even though we want to shop), it’s better outfits

This series is about rewearing, remixing, and rediscovering what we already own.

Step 1: Editing My Closet With Honesty

The first part of my closet reset wasn’t glamorous, it was honest.

I went through my wardrobe asking myself:

  • Does this fit my body right now?

  • Have I worn this in the last year? Ever?

  • Will I wear this, this year?

  • Would I buy this again today?

If the answer was no, I let it go. No guilt. No pressure. Just clarity.

Editing my closet helped me see my style more clearly and made getting dressed less overwhelming and fun.

Step 2: Rediscovering Forgotten Pieces

Once the clutter was gone, the fun part began.

I found:

  • Jackets I forgot I loved

  • Two-piece sets I forgot I had

  • Shoes that deserved more moments, among other things.

This step reminded me that style doesn’t disappear, it’s just buried under too many or a lot of options.

Shopping your closet gives you that new clothes feeling without spending a dollar. Especially when you still have items with tags on them!

Step 3: Creating Outfit Formulas That Actually Work

One of the biggest lessons from this reset was I have endless outfits, I just need to put together reliable formulas.

Some of mine include:

  • Statement jacket + simple base

  • Tailored pants + fitted top

  • Blazers for all occasions

These formulas make getting dressed faster especially on busy mornings.

Step 4: Styling Instead of Buying

This year, I’m asking myself one question before purchasing anything new:

Can I style what I already have differently first?

Sometimes the answer is:

  • Layer it differently

  • Belt it

  • Change the shoes

  • Add an accessory

More often than not, I realize the outfit I want is already in my closet, it just needed a new perspective and a pop or color.

How This Series Shows Up on Instagram

On Instagram, “We Got Clothes at Home” looks like:

  • Outfit remixes using the same pieces

  • Rewearing items in new ways

  • Styling one item multiple times

  • Showing real-life outfits, not just “new” ones

It’s about normalizing outfit repeats and celebrating personal style over trends.

Why This Closet Reset Feels Different This Time

This reset isn’t about rules or restrictions. It’s about ease, confidence, and intention.

We are not chasing trends or shopping out of boredom. I’m dressing for my life, my schedule, my body, my comfort, my joy.

And honestly? Getting dressed is my favorite part of the day.

Final Thoughts: You Might Have More Than You Think

If you’re feeling uninspired by your wardrobe, I encourage you to pause before buying something new.

Open your closet.

Try something on differently.

Play.

Because chances are…

you got clothes at home!

xoxo Charrisse
