How I Care For My Type 4 Hair When Life Is Busy
Life gets busy with work deadlines, content creation, family, rest and fun! And sometimes hair care needs to fit into life, not take over it.
Over the years, I’ve learned that caring for my Type 4 hair doesn’t require perfection. It requires consistency, patience, and grace.
My Realistic Wash Day Routine
Wash day looks different depending on the week but I aim for once every 7–10 days. I focus on:
A gentle cleanse
Deep moisture
Minimal manipulation
And, protection afterward
If I don’t have time for a long routine, I simplify. Healthy hair thrives on consistency, not complexity.
Low-Manipulation Is My Best Friend
Twists, buns, and low tension ponytails are my go-to styles. They protect my hair while allowing me to still feel put together. I’ve stopped forcing elaborate styles when my schedule doesn’t allow it. But when I have time, I am all for trying something new.
Products I Trust
I keep my product lineup small. When something works, I stick with it. My hair responds best when I’m not constantly switching things up. One thing I always do is pre-poo/pre-detangle before washing my hair. I like to wash my hair in twists and in sections so I can get all strands and to my scalp easily.
What I’ve Stopped Doing
I stopped:
Over-manipulating my hair
Trying every new trend
Expecting my hair to look the same every day
Natural hair is versatile so allowing your hair to just be it’s authentic self without all of the manipulation can be beneficial.
Final Thoughts
My hair is allowed to exist. And so am I. So, don’t let your hair suffer because you are “too busy.”
